Indeks di bursa Wall Street ditutup melemah akibat masih berlangsungnya peralihan dari saham-saham sektor teknologi serta profit taking atas saham-saham yang menguat akhir-akhir ini. Sepuluh dari 11 sektor dalam indeks S&P500 ditutup melemah. Saham berkapitalisasi kecil juga mengalami koreksi. Aksi jual ini merupakan lanjutan dari tren penurunan saham teknologi yang sudah terjadi dalam beberapa hari terakhir. Penurunan ini didorong oleh spekulasi bahwa Federal Reserve akan menurunkan suku bunga pada bulan September. Harapan penurunan suku bunga ini menguntungkan saham-saham berkapitalisasi kecil dan siklikal. Namun, saham-saham tersebut juga ikut turun setelah mengalami kenaikan signifikan sebelumnya. Harga minyak mentah dan emas juga mengalami koreksi akibat penguatan dollar AS.

IHSG pada perdagangan Kamis 18 Juli 2024 ditutup menguat 1,34% pada level 7321. Saham sektor energi membukukan kenaikan terbesar, sedangkan saham sektor teknologi mengalami koreksi terbesar. Investor asing mencatatkan net sell Rp1,16 triliun termasuk transaksi di pasar non regular.
